Orton the man for now!
According to a recent article in the Boulder Daily Camera, the Broncos are sticking with quarterback Kyle Orton as their starter. This coming on the heels of the team's recent trade for former Brown's quarterback Brady Quinn. "He is our starter" a recent quote coming from head coach Josh McDaniels.
This has been the company line and what McDaniels has been saying publicly, but would anyone expect anything different? Quinn has potential (1st round pick in 2007 draft), but that's all he has at the moment and that isn't enough to earn a starting gig in the NFL. Orton has shown he is safe and steady (21 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in 2009). He may lack the big arm, but he's not likely to lose the game for you.
Orton is the starter today and tomorrow, but training camp is several months and quite a few OTA's away. Before we buy off on the company line, let's see what McDaniels has to say in July when the players report to camp.
Marshall continues to wait...
According to the Sporting News, after four weeks of free agency the Bronco's playmaking receiver and restricted free agent has not received any big offers from any of the other 31 teams, including the Seahawks. Marshall did visit Seattle, but was not offered a deal.
The SN also goes further to say that according the Denver Post Marshall was offered a large deal last summer by the Broncos. Apparently the deal was not enough to change his mind about leaving Denver. Marshall has been the team's leading receiver for the past three seasons and has topped 100 catches in each. In 2009 Marshall had a career high 10-touchdowns in 15 games.
With several teams still interested, this story may not go away. Things could very much heat up as the 2010 NFL draft approaches.
